Gamers get hella uncomfortable over male sexuality too. Can you imagine a “good male character who just happens to be wearing sexually exploitative outfits because he’s ok with his masculinity?” Constantly has the camera pan lovingly over his asscrack and firm glutes, and big ole dangly ballsack that is totes sweaty from all this MMA and soldiering. Time to hit the showers, and do you, personally, think it’s ok to have a long slow pan up the dude’s package (indiscreetly hidden in a jock of course), to his chiseled physique and erect nipples (pierced). He’s not even a Bond-esque confident man, he’s basically a weird Bowie caricature that’s constantly having near-dickslips in every single cinematic as the completely nonsexualized female characters do their business of being gruff and shooting dudes and advancing the plot. Finally, at the end he falls in love (out of nowhere) and/or is killed by the big baddie.
a forum post I read recently, trying to give a solid example of what ‘male objectification in gaming ’ would actually look like if it was anything equivalent to current female objectification in gaming. (via nothingbutsurrender)

they are a blog that claims to be for women and female friendly, trying to support women writers. on some riot girl bullshit. and they are about to post a racist as fuck image in their zine. http://strugglingtobeheard.tumblr.com/post/23772584508/blck-grrl-navigatethestream-blck-grrl#notes this is the image. it was drawn by a white woman who draws racist imagery of Black men on her blog as well. she is going to get exposure and recognition for drawing the word slut on a woman who likely hasn’t eve reclaimed the title. she is also likely racist, judging by her blog content. furthermore, it is clear this zine hasn’t paid attention to the numerous voices of women of color who stood AGAINST slut walk, something they seem to be cool with.

NEW - Elementary - Exclusive 4 min Preview

OH.MY.GODS.

This show. All the awards.

I am officially interested.

I was already for this show out of spite towards the racist backlash.

But I might have to keep up with this.

This looks REALLY interesting.

Okay, a little clarification about my rage.

omgthatdress:

I got a long-winded message from a follower saying they were going to unfollow me because they felt my response to someone claiming that the bustle was inspired by the Hottentot Venus (a claim, while interesting, makes absolutely no sense in the context of what I know about the history of 19th-century costume and White femininity, which is a subject I think I’m qualified to speak about being a White woman and all) was racist.  If a person of color were to address these concerns to me, I’d try my best to explain my rationale for thinking and present it in a logical, respectful way.  But the person who messaged me wasn’t.  I didn’t have to look farther than their icon to see that they were a fellow White person.

As of writing this post, I have 29,192 followers on OMG that Dress! alone.  I can’t read everyone’s mind and know what someone might interpret as being offensive. The truth is I go out of my way to be aware of my own privilege, to understand racism, and to not only make my blogs acceptable, but to celebrate diversity in all its forms.  I’m not Mitt Romney, but I know that in the overall scheme of things, as a middle-class American heterosexual cisgender white girl, I’m pretty damn privileged.  And when a fellow middle-class White person accuses me of not being PC enough so that they can give themselves a pat on the back for being the morally superior one, it pisses me off.

signs you or someone you know is a rapist:

*you assume women owe you their body if you bought them dinner

*you assume women owe you their body because you were nice to them

*you assume women owe you their body because youre horny and you want them

*you assume women owe you their body because they drank/wore whatever the fuck

*you assume women owe you their body because they let you do “x” w them before

NO ONE OWES YOU THEIR BODY EVER. IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU GAVE THEM. WHAT THEY DRANK. WHAT THEYRE WEARING. WHAT ELSE THEY DID WITH YOU. THEY STILL DONT OWE YOU SHIT AND YOU HAVE NOOOOOO RIGHT TO EVEN BEGIN TO SUGGEST THEY DO.

other peoples bodies will never ever be your property. ever.
